The Internet of Things is a new paradigm which is beginning to reveal itself and which will likely become a transparent aspect of every day life within the next couple decades. It refers to the web of information connecting both online and physical objects. As this new concept is still revealing itself, attempting to define it would be premature. Some common threads that run through discussions on the Net of Things include: uniquely identifiable, machine readable tags on real world objects, such as RFID tags; online databases linking tags with information; location awareness, such as GPS; pervasive wireless internet access; automatic logging of status and encounters with objects; the ability to search for an object online and locate it in real space.
